Marilyn and Brian are your typical nerdy, technologically savvy couple. Marilyn, originally from Monterrey, Mexico, studied software engineering and was sent to Charlotte on an IT project where she later met Brian. He is from Virginia, and studies Computer Science at UNC. On July 11th 2015, the couple met at a party at Whiskey River in Uptown Charlotte. From then on, the two were inseparable. Two months later, Marilyn went back to Mexico and returned with her daughter, Annie. All three moved into her apartment in Plaza Midwood.
On May 5th, Brian suggested that they go for a run in Freedom Park trails. Once on the trails, Brian surprised Marilyn by getting down on one knee! He proposed with his mother’s engagement ring, making it even more sentimental. Not wasting any time, the two married the very next day!! Not to worry though, they planned on having another big wedding, where Brian can finally meet all of Marilyn’s family. Over the next couple months, the couple spent their time wedding planning, even buying their first home together.
Marilyn always dreamt of getting married on the beach. When her mother-in-law suggested Folly Beach, South Carolina, she knew it was the perfect spot! All of Marilyn’s family traveled from Mexico to South Carolina to help the couple celebrate. They were married on July 11th, 2017, exactly two years after they began dating.
As for the bride’s day-of look, she wore a stunning Signature Justin Alexander gown. It was a silk dupoin A-line gown that effortlessly complimented Marilyn’s figure. The bodice and back of the train featured decorative hand-sewn crystals and beadwork.
One aspect of Brian and Marilyn’s wedding that we adore is the emphasis on tradition and what made the couple special. The ceremony featured Mexican wedding traditions like “The Arras Rite, as well as a sentimental sand ceremony including her daughter. Keeping some aspects true to what they love, the two traded Star Wars themed rings. As for Marilyn’s something old, she wore her mother’s wedding bracelet. Her something new was a gorgeous sapphire necklace from Brian that flattered the sweetheart neckline of her gown. Her something borrowed was a traditional British Sixpence from her mother-in-law.
After a heartfelt ceremony, the couple celebrated at a funky, retro style reception. They had their first dance as husband and wife to Frank Sinatra’s “Strangers in the Night.” Everyone enjoyed finally being together as one big family from Mexico, Virginia, and everywhere in between. They played traditional Mexican wedding games like “La vivora de la mar” and “El Muertito.” Brian said his favorite part of the wedding day was how much fun they had at the reception. They spent their first “mini-moon” with friends and family at Folly Beach. Brian and Marilyn plan to later honeymoon in either Tokyo or Italy. We want to come!!
Now settled into marriage, they enjoy ordering pizza, playing videogames, or watching sci-fi movies. As for advice to future brides, Marilyn has emphasized the importance of getting professional photographers and videographers. After all, who would not want to live their wedding day over??
Marilyn and Brian, thank you so much for including us in your fairytale! Everything turned out beautifully <3
