Working in a bridal salon, a frequent question we hear is “How do I avoid pulling up a strapless dress all night?” Luckily we came across an article from Brides magazines with tips and we’re excited to share our favorites with you!
The first tip is to get it altered! Terry Hall, Kleinfield’s fashion director, says that if you have the right fit and wear the right undergarments, you have nothing to worry about.
Tip #2 is buying the correct bust size; if you are bustier, it’s always a good idea to order the dress to fit your bust and have the dress taken in everywhere else to fit.
The third tip is to choose a dress that has boning. Schmidt and Herbert says that boning will give the top of your dress the structure that you want and hold you in like a corset–so you don’t feel like your gown is slipping down constantly.
Lastly, make sure you buy the proper undergarments and add some straps! Buying a strapless bra that matches and has boning that extends to your waist, or even lower, keeps everything in place. Getting straps put into your dress, during alterations, is another great idea. By doing this, you’re giving yourself the versatility to have a strapless for the ceremony and pictures and then slipping on the strap for the reception for just a little added support.
