You never know what great friendships lead to, for Angela and Mark their friendship blossomed into a fiery love story. Angela currently works as a Registered Nurse at Caromont Regional Medical Center. Mark has been a fireman for over 26 years and is currently the Deputy Chief of the Gastonia Fire Department.
The couple met in a place most people wouldn’t expect to find a significant other – the gym. While pumping iron, Mark couldn’t take his eyes off of Angela’s smile, and after building a strong friendship over the years their friendship slowly turned into romance.
Angela went on to participate in the Marine Corps Marathon in Washington D.C., and little did she know Mark had planned a big surprise for the ending of the race. As soon as she crossed the finish line Mark was waiting for her down on one knee. Her parents were also there holding a banner that read “Angela, will you marry me?”, talk about a great ending to a marathon!
Angela and Mark were married at the ever-so-gorgeous Woodmill Winery in Vale, North Carolina. Surrounded by friends and family, the couple had their first dance to Alan Jackson’s “Red on a Rose”. Angela says that her favorite aspect of the entire wedding was seeing the look on her groom’s face as she walked down the aisle.
Thinking back on the big day, Angela is very thankful that she and Mark took a step back from the party to soak everything in together. Instead of getting wrapped up in making sure everyone else is happy, it is important to remember that the wedding is about the bride and groom. Her advice to brides-to-be is to take a few moments during the reception to step away from the crowd and relish the fact that you and the love of your life are finally married. As for advice for grooms-to-be, Mark says it is vital to always treat your woman like a lady, whether it is day or night and to always put her needs ahead of yours (*currently swooning*)(also, take notes fellas).
Following the wedding the couple honeymooned in the mountains in Boone, NC, where they enjoyed a few peaceful days in a secluded cabin surrounded by nature. The busy newlyweds find themselves always on-the-go, so when they find time their favorite dates typically include something outdoorsy and active. One of their favorite places to go is the Whitewater Center when they have events like River Jam. Angela and Mark live a fast-paced, active lifestyle – we can only dream of keeping up with this power couple!
